By Raja Ghoshal NEW DELHI, SEP 3 : Tata Chemicals Ltd is foraying into neutraceuticals and is set to launch products in this segment in 2011, Rajiv Kumar, head of green chemistry and catalysis told TickerNews Service on Friday. Neutraceutical is a food product that provides health and medical benefits, including prevention and treatment of disease. "Tata Chemicals will get into the neutraceuticals business. I am hopeful neutraceutical products would be out in 2011," Kumar said. "Low sweeteners and food additives are products that we have already identified. These are likely to be our first neutraceutical products to hit the market," he said. Tata Chemicals is developing neutraceuticals at its innovation centre in Pune. The final products would be manufactured at Pune as well as its facility at Nanded in Maharashtra. Currently, the Nanded facility is used by the company for ethanol production, Kumar said. "In the neutraceutical segment, we convert naturally occurring products into value added products through biotechnology," said Kumar. Currently, Tata Chemicals' main business areas include soda ash, urea and salt among others. Plant locations include Gujarat, UP and Maharashtra in India. Overseas, it has facilities in US, UK and Kenya. The netutraceutical industry in India is growing fast, Kumar said. At 3:23PM, Tata Chemicals share was trading at Rs 413.35 on National Stock Exchange, up 3.46% from Thursday's close. Filed by Harold Rasquinha
