Lupin to get USFDA approval for generic Lipitor

MUMBAI (makemystocks): Lupin Ltd (BOM:500257) has received approval from the US drugs regulator, US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for selling generic version of cholesterol drug Lipitor in the US market.
The company stocks zoomed up by 2% in the afternoon trades on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Lupin is reported to take two years to develop the generic version of Lipitor and take approval from the U.S. drug regulator.
Pfizer Inc, the patent holder of Lupitor, maintained that the drug regulator's decision has no effect till its patent expires in Nov 2011.
However, no official comments were made by Lupin officials.
Lupin stocks traded with gains of close to 2% in the afternoon trades on BSE today.
