Markets end flat: Mid-cap, Small-cap hold gains

MUMBAI (makemystocks): Markets opened flat on muted global environment this morning. The indices remained lackluster and choppy throughout the day.
Metal and Oil & Gas sectors put pressure on indices, while Realty and Auto witnessed fresh buying. Mid cap and small cap counters were the flavor of the day as both the indices gained nearly one percent at the closing of the last day of the trading week.
European markets opened and traded in positive territory but did not give any boost to local markets. Both the benchmark indices in India gained more than one percent this week after two hundred points of correction from recent top of 5550 in Nifty.
NSE Nifty closed at 5479.40 with the loss of 6.75 points and at BSE, Sensex closed at 18221.43 with the loss of 16.88 points at the end of the day. BSE MIDCAP index closed at 7879.11 with the gain of 75.21 points and BSE SMALLCAP index closed at 9912.64 with the gain of 92.02 points.
In percentage terms key losers were Suzlon Energy Ltd (NSE: SUZLON), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (NSE: JINDALSTEL) and Hindalco Industries Ltd (NSE: HINDALCO) while key gainers were Unitech Ltd (NSE: UNITECH), Hero Honda Motors Ltd (NSE: HEROHONDA) and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd (NSE: RANBAXY).
On sectoral front major selling was seen in Metal, Oil & Gas and Capital Goods sectors while major buying was seen in Realty and Auto sectors. Market breadth on BSE remained positive where 1661 advances against 1246 declines back of good amount of buying seen in small and mid cap counters.
From the perspective of weight in Nifty key losers were Reliance Industries Ltd (NSE: RELIANCE), ITC Ltd (NSE: ITC) and Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (NSE: JINDALSTEL) while key gainers were Infosys Technologies Ltd (NSE: INFOSYSTCH), Bharti Airtel Ltd (NSE: BHARTIARTL) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE: ONGC).
